Former Resident Launches Harrison Facebook Forum

HARRISON, N.Y. - A former long-time resident of Harrison created a Facebook community forum this week that has already seen close to 800 posts with locals flocking to share their stories. The group, " You're Probably from Harrison, N.Y. if... " has become a hub for Harrison history and has residents connecting over their town's story.

"One of my friends who lives in Greenwich started one, so I did it, too," creator Janice Scelia Roberto said. "I was not expecting this kind of response. We have over 200 members and every day I'm getting requests to join."

Roberto said she grew up in Harrison and moved to Florida close to 12 years ago, but still owns part of her childhood home in town where her daughter currently lives.

Posts on the forum range from historical to comical and have residents across the town remembering their Harrison experiences.

"I had absolutely nothing accomplished because of all these great stories everyone is sharing," user Sabrina Bengel said . She was only one of the 545 members of the forum as of Thursday afternoon.

Ongoing conversations revolve around past teachers, restaurants, shops, and town scenery.

One popular post had residents marveling at the evolution of their town when Robert Triozzi posted an old photo of Harrison Avenue at the corner of Halstead Avenue .

Roberto said she was surprised by the quick levels of popularity the site had achieved.

"I thought it would just be viewed by the people on my friends list," Roberto said. "Well, I'm glad it spread."
