HARRISON, N.Y. - Republican candidate David Gelfarb has won the District 6 race for county legislator, according to unofficial results from the County Board of Elections .
All county districts were reporting Gelfarb ahead of opponent Dan Brakewood (D) by nearly 700 votes. Gelfarb will replace Democratic Legistalor Martin Rogowsky, who will retire when his term ends this year.
"We're feeling good," Gelfarb said. "I'm excited to get to work."
District 6 represents Harrison, Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester on the county Board of Legislators.
Gelfarb (R, C) of Rye Brook managed a campaign centered on lowering Westchester County's taxes, which are among the nation's highest. Rather than focusing on making county services more affordable, his campaign focused instead on making them more efficient.
Brakewood (D, WF) of Port Chester ran his campaign with the promise to rid the county of wasteful spending and improving county services. He said his experience as a Port Chester trustee and police commissioner since 2006 was vital experience in making county services more affordable.
"It was a very tough environment to run in," Brakewood said, speaking of the Republican-leaning results throughout much of District 6. "I congratulate David Gelfarb."
