HARRISON, N.Y. Several hundred Harrison residents celebrated the Fourth of July at the Ron Belmont Pool Complex with music food and, of course, swimming.
Between 300 and 500 people visited the pool and Supervisor Rick Magrino said it was the busiest day of the season.
"A lot of people come here to make a day out of it," Magrino said. "It's a social event. It's a place to go."
Magrino said that there were at least 50 people lined up at the gates before the pool opened at noon on Independence Day.
"We had to fully-staff ourselves today," Magrino said about the nine lifeguards watching the pool simultaneously. "All hands on deck."
The pool complex hosted a July Fourth celebration from noon to 6 p.m. Monday equipped with a DJ, food and its signature water slide. Ralph Didonato is from Harrison brought his wife and four children to the pool to cool off and be together on the holiday.
"It's close to home, and the kids love it," he said.
The Ron Belmont Pool Complex opened its gates for the first time on Independence Day in 2009. Magrino said the holiday celebration has become a great attraction of the season since its opening.
In the future, Magrino said, themed events such as a Luau celebration might make a splash to add to its increasingly popular July Fourth celebrations.
