Greer Reflects on First Week as Harrison Clerk

HARRISON, N.Y. - Everything is fresh inside the Harrison town clerk's office, from the paint on the walls to the energy brought in by newcomers. After her first official week on the job, Harrison Town Clerk Jacqueline Greer said she was all ears.

"There's been a lot going on since I started," Greer said. "I've been busy updating different forms, meeting with department heads and listening to the residents."

Though she was sworn into office on Jan. 1, Greer said she spent the month of December in and out of the clerk's office to get a feel for the day-to-day operations and show her face. She said she's been meeting with the residents, introducing herself, and getting to know what was important to the town.

Most recently, she said, the office has been busy with parking applications as 2011's permits expired. The task was another chance to meet new people.

"I want to learn how to do everything," Greer said. "So I spent a lot of my time listening to what everyone is working on and helping. It's very hands-on."

After filling a seat left vacant since last August when former Town Clerk Joseph Acocella Jr. died of liver complications, Greer said keeping the office fully-staffed and functional was important to her.

"We always have to be here," Greer said.

Greer also said she's been working to update the town's website . But one of her biggest tasks during her first week, she said, was assembling and executing an agenda for the town board's first meeting of 2012 .

"Once that first meeting is done, I can say the week is up," Greer said. "It has been the biggest part of my first week. I was nervous, but excited to finally be a part of it."

She will attend an elected officials training seminar in Albany through part of her second week on the job alongside Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont.
