HARRISON, N.Y. - Acocella and Associates Attorney Frank A. Acocella announced he will no longer run for the Westchester County Board of Legislators after other candidates in the race received minor party endorsements.
"It just made the most sense for me and my family," Harrison native Acocella said. "After the minor parties handed down their endorsements, it became apparent that this year would not be my year."
Acocella received the endorsement of the Harrison Democratic Committee in early June.
"I will still seek public office at some time in the future," he said.
Acocella was a Democratic nominee to serve the sixth Legislative District, which includes Harrison, Port Chester and Rye. He also ran for Harrison Town Clerk in 2007 against current Town Clerk Joseph Acocella, to whom he has no relation.
The race to replace County Legislator Marty Rogowsky on the Democratic side was left between Port Chester Trustee Daniel Brakewood and Mark Jaffe of West Harrison, who have both received minor party endorsements as well. Rye Town Councilman David Gelfarb is running on the Republican side with endorsements from the local Republican and Conservative parties.
The general election will be November 1 to determine the next county legislator.
