HARRISON, N.Y. - Harrison Avenue remained partially blocked off Wednesday as workers continued to replace a metal gas main underground.
The northbound lane towards White Plains was blocked at the intersection of Harrison and Union avenues throughout August.
A larger and more sustainable plastic pipe will be inserted and completed to allow regular traffic flow within three weeks, according to Fred Heyde of White Plains' Birdsall Engineering .
Heyde said the goal is to have the work done by the time school starts so it doesn't interfere with traffic flow.
"We've got a shot at it," he said.
As metal gas mains corrode, they are more susceptible to leakage. Heyde said the newer plastic main being installed is larger and will last longer for the town.
