Harrison Avenue School Hosts Wellness Week

HARRISON, N.Y. - Students and parents of Harrison Avenue School were the first of the town's six schools to host its own Wellness Week, encouraging students to make healthier choices in their daily lives.

Health-centered events and activities were hosted from Oct. 11 to Oct. 14, including a morning walk around Feeley Field's track with parents, siblings and friends. The first 100 "movers" of the event received a pedometer to track their steps during the day, school officials said.

Two healthy bake sales were hosted last week as well with daily healthy tips and snacks announced at the school. Healthy snacks brought to school by students were counted with hopes to beat last year's goal of 2,000.

"Wellness week was a wonderful way to continue our focus on overall wellness," Principal Valerie Hymes said. "The collaboration of staff and parents enabled the school community to come together in the spirit of healthy living."
