Harrison Avenue School Releases Supplies Lists

HARRISON, N.Y. - Leaving school shopping for the last minute can create a hectic last weekend of summer for parents in Harrison. Local schools have listed required school supplies to make the final shopping cart push a bit easier.

Harrison Avenue Elementary School listed supplies on its website so parents know exactly what to send their little ones to school with come Tuesday.

Schools open for students on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Here are the supplies lists from Harrison Avenue:

Kindergarten:

Mrs. Harold's class - 1 supply/pencil box, not large, 1 pair of scissors, 3 large glue sticks, 1 blue pocket folder, 1 pocket folder (any color of design), 1 box of 8 large crayola crayons, 1 box of 24 crayola crayons, 1 box of tissues, a book bag (no wheels please), a lunch box (for when we begin full days), 1 smock or old t-shirt, 1 pack of 8 crayola thick markers, 2 hard cover marble composition notebooks, 1 package of yellow #2 pencils, 3 recent pictures of your child (the pictures will not be returned), 1 package of gallon size Ziploc bags, 3 highlighters - 1 yellow, 1 pink, 1 green / Please put your child's name on all supplies.

Mrs. Occhipinti's class - 1 large backpack (without wheels), 3 sturdy plastic, bottom packet, plastic folders (1 red, 1 blue, 1 green), 12 yellow school pencils (sharpened), 1 pair of safety scissors, 3 large glue sticks , 1 box 8 crayons (please do not get a bigger box), 2 yellow highlighter markers , 1 small bath towel (for quiet time), 1 pencil sharpener, 1 pink eraser, 1 black and white marble notebooks (unlined), 1 standard plastic pencil box, 1 3x5 picture (head shot).

Mrs. Williams's class - Pencil Box (not too big), 2 plastic bottom pocket folders (1 blue, 1 green), 1 fun folder - your child can choose any design, 1 unruled (no lines) composition book (you can find at Family Discount)?3 large glue sticks (Elmer's or Avery brands work best), 1 box (24 pack) Crayola crayons, Large book bag (NO WHEELS)?1 large box tissues?1 box gallon size Ziploc bags, 1 box sandwich size Ziploc bags, *One of dad's old t-shirts for messy projects! Please do not purchase an art smock, I find it is easier for the children to put on a t-shirt rather than a smock with ties! You do not need to label each individual item only the package that they came in.

All of first grade: 1 child-sized, pointed scissor, 2 boxes of  crayons (16 colors in a box), 6 large glue sticks, 1 box plain pencils (sharpened please), 1 Green, Paper, Two-Pocket Folder, 1 blue, plastic, 2 pocket folder, 3 small, recent photos of yourself (close up is best and not group shots), 1 photo or postcard of something you have done or somewhere you have visited this summer. Community supplies: Girls:   1 box of tissues, 1 box of large Ziploc bags. Boys: 1 bulk size peanut-fee snack (cheerios, goldfish, pretzels, etc) 1 box small Ziploc bags.

Second grade:

Mrs. Horowitz's class : A healthful snack to eat mid morning (for every day!), 2 sturdy two-pocket folders (the paper ones don't last), 12 Sharpened pencils- (remember to also have some at home for homework), 3 large square pink erasers ( these are important for homework as well!), 1 family-sized tissue box, 1 roll of paper towels. All other supplies will be provided. You do not need to label any supplies with your child's name. We will take care of everything on the first day of school. Please do not send a supply box; I already have boxes in which the children will store their materials.

Mrs. Singel?'s class : 4 plastic two-pocket folders?1 large zippered pencil case (cloth works best), 2 small hand-held pencil sharpener with a cover (keep one at home), 24 sharpened pencils (bring 5 to school - keep the rest at home), 1 thin permanent marker (Sharpie brand works best), 4 large rectangular pink erasers (keep 2 at home). Supplies MUST be replenished as needed. Please ask an adult to help you put your first name and last initial on ALL of your supplies using a black permanent marker; especially on pencils! Also, bring a picture of you reading your favorite book on the first day of school - it's for a special project.

Mrs. Tisherman's class : Please make sure your name is on everything you bring in.  DO NOT bring in a pencil/supply box.  I will have a supply box for you to store your things. 2 plastic two-pocket folders, 6 (3 x 3) Post-it pads (any color)?1 box of #2 pencils with 5 already sharpened, 1 permanent marker (any color)?1 box of tissues (if your last name begins with A-M)?1 roll of paper towels (if your last name begins with N-Z)?1 book that you will enjoy reading to yourself, 1 healthy snack. One more thing: On the first day of school, please have with you one thing to share that lets us know something you did this summer.

Mrs. Wildrick's class : 2 sturdy two-pocket folders (the paper ones don't last), 1 marble notebook (any color no more than 100 pages), 1 pair of children's scissors (be sure your child is able to cut with them), 1 large glue stick, 24 pencils (bring a dozen to school and save the rest), 4 Block erasers, 1 package of loose-leaf paper to be kept at home for homework, 1 family-sized tissue box, 1 family-sized roll of paper towels. Please do not send a supply box; I already have boxes in which the children will store their materials.

Third grade:

Mrs. D'Arco's class : 1 Plastic pocket folder (homework), 1 spiral notebook ( 8*10), 1 Hard Cover, black marble, composition book (100 pages), 1 Plastic utility box ( approx. 8" long, 5" wide, 3" high), 12 sharpened pencils  ?1 pencil sharpener with cover?1 eraser or eraser tips for pencils?1 large box of tissues, 1 yellow Highlighter?1 red marking pen (not flair or markers), 1 set of colored pencils, 1 Pair of scissors, 1 glue stick?, A healthy snack for the morning ( We won't eat lunch until 1:00pm)

Mrs. Gelsomino's class : ???1 Sharpener with a cover?, 1 box of large tissues?, 1 scissor, 1 box of colored pencils?, 1 box of #2 pencils (sharpened)?, 1 large glue stick?, 2 double pocket folders (plastic) Labeled: Homework, Independent Reading and Writing. 3 double pocket folders (paper) labels:  Spanish, Health, Music?. 1 highlighter, 1 black and white marble notebook (100 pages and hardcover), ?healthy snack?2 books for silent reading (chapter books preferred), A plastic utility box approximately 8" long by 5" wide by 3" high, 1 Spiral notebook. Assignment pads will be given out during the first week of school.

Mrs. Skorney's class : 2 boxes of sharpened pencils?, 2 books for independent reading (please select your books with care and make sure they are "just right" for you)?, 1 pack of loose leaf paper (keep this at home for homework), 1 spiral notebook with a yellow cover that is wide-ruled, 1 soft pencil case, 1 box of tissues to share with the class , 1 small personal pencil sharpener, 1 glue stick, Assignment pads will be given out the first week of school and money for these books will be collected at that time. Assignment pads will be given out during the first week of school. PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING A SNACK!

Fourth grade:

Ms. Barbera's class : 2 plastic coated pocket folders - labeled:  "Home Folder" and "Day Folder", 2 boxes tissues, 2 boxes of pencil, a soft pencil case, 1 marble notebook, 2 packs 3 x 5 Post-Its, a picture of yourself doing one of your favorite summertime activites. Please note...all supplies should be labeled with your child's name and room number, 4-20.

Mrs. Michill's class : 3 marble composition notebooks, 1 box of tissues, 1 Pencil case with 2 sharpened pencils, 1 Red Plastic Portfolio Folder (labeled Homework), 1 Blue Plastic Portfolio Folder (Labeled Classwork), 1 Package of Post-Its ( size 3 in. by 3in. or 7.5 by 7.5), A 4 x 6 picture of yourself reading in your favorite reading spot during the summer. A book that you are reading or would like to start reading on your first day of class. Please label your supplies with you name!  All other supplies will be provided.

Ms. Clampet's class : A box of pencils, 1 marble composition notebooks, 4-2 pocket folders (plastic coated last longest), 1 boxes of tissues, 3 X 3 Post-Its (2 packs), pocket dictionary, a picture of yourself doing a favorite summertime activity (for example, I will bring a picture of myself reading in my backyard.)

Mrs. O'Donnell's class : 1 boxes of tissues, 1 two pocket folder for FLES (Spanish), 1 empty (cleaned) Pringles container or mailing tube, with a cover, a picture of yourself reading in your favorite reading spot during the summer.  For example:  My picture will be of me reading on my float, in my pool! Please label your supplies with your name!  All other supplies will be provided.

Fifth grade:

Mrs. Bologna's class : Book for silent reading, 4 dozen pencils #2, colored pencils, scissor, glue stick, 8 pack Post Its, 3 marble notebook, assignment pad (available only at school), 3 plastic pocket portfolios, Simple solar powered calculator, A gigantic smile. No binders, please!

Ms. Markarian and Mr. Stark's class : Soft pencil pouch with zipper, ?Colored pencils?, Colored markers-fine line?, 4 dozen #2 pencils (Keep 2 dozen at home), 1 Covered pencil sharpener, Several erasable pens (black or blue), Pink block eraser, 2 Highlighter pens?, 5 Black and White marble compostition notebooks, 1 Boxes of tissues?, Glue Stick, 4 Package of post-its (any size), ?6 "Brights" (Brand name Pocket folders or any plastic coated pocket folder. We would like the folders to be color coded to assist in student organization as they switch classes. 1 red folders (Math and Science)?, 2 blue folder (English/Language Arts)?, 2 yellow folder (Social Studies and FLES)?, 1 green folder (Home folder), 1 Recyclable "Supermarket" tote bag with handles (available at Whole Foods, Stop and Shop and most other markets). Students will use these when they rotate classrooms. Suggestions to be kept at home:?Composition paper, thesaurus, dictionary. Important: No binders, trapper keepers or expandable folders. We do not have space in our desks. Reminder: You will need to bring a healthful, easily-managed snack and water everyday!

Mrs. Stofi's class : Colored pencils, 8 packs  Post-It Notes (any size except the very large and any color), 4 dozen #2 pencils, Soft pencil case with zipper, Box of tissues, Pink block eraser, Solar powered calculator with simple functions (nothing fancy is necessary), 3 marble notebooks, 6 Plastic folders (different colors) with pockets. Make sure to label all your folders and notebooks with your name and no binders, please.
