Harrison Board to Discuss Rezoning, FEMA Aid

HARRISON, N.Y. - A public hearing on the rezoning of Grant and Oakland avenues in Harrison is set for Thursday night amongst other items on the board's agenda.

Also on tap for this week's board meeting will be the likely acceptance of another $3,050 in donations for the Harrison Food Pantry. The pantry has collected over $4,000 in donations over the past five board meetings.

The board will also discuss Town Engineer Michael Amodeo's announcement that Harrison received $496,346.28 in FEMA aid for "eligible work on the Main Street Sanitary Sewer and Roadway Improvement Project," according to the agenda.

Amodeo found that Harrison was able to apply for an "in-house" survey and design portions of the project, and has received an additional $116,969.34 from FEMA for those services, bringing the total reimbursement for the Main Street project to $613,315.62. That is over half of the project cost. The money will likely be placed in a capital account that will enable the town to fix other various drainage and sanitary sewer issues.

The new Harrison town village board will hold its second meeting of 2012 Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. inside the town municipal building at 1 Heineman Pl. Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont and his all-Republican board kicked the year off with action during its last meeting, reforming the town's parking policy for commercial vehicles .
