HARRISON, N.Y. - Harrison Chamber of Commerce President Ada Angarano watched the doors of the downtown Veteran's Memorial Building as over 40 residents, including potential mayor candidate Ron Belmont , came through to donate blood . Better yet, many of the donors carried rare blood types.
"Harrison is very blessed to have so many with these rare blood types," Angarano said.
The Chamber of Commerce stressed that types O-, O+ and B- were at an "extremely low supply," but all types were welcome at the drive.
Donate Life was also present and accepting applications from potential organ donors.
Jennifer Lucas, a blood drive volunteer and a very close friend of late Town Clerk Joey Acocella , was in charge of the organ donor drive in his memory.
"It was Joey who first introduced the New York Organ Donor's Program into Harrison and we hope that all of our Harrison residents will consider becoming an organ donor so that others like Joey may be fortunate enough to survive and live out their lives peacefully," the Chamber of Commerce said on its website .
