Harrison Cheerleaders Win Section 1 Competition

HARRISON, N.Y. – The award-winning Harrison cheerleaders were named champions Saturday when the team won the third annual WPDRCCA Conference B competition at Somers High School.

The team competed in the large varsity division, led by head coaches Rosa Acocella, Kamisi Simmions and Renia Medina. They will compete throughout the coming months including a Nov. 21 competition at the Westchester County Center in White Plains and Dec. 3 in the UCA regional and nationals qualifiers at Hofstra University.

"This team comprised of two seniors and many underclassmen pulled together rather than fell apart and pulled out a win," Acocella said. "This competition is a great success because it is the first of the season."

The winning team also received a Conference B banner to display at the high school.

The Harrison cheerleaders participate in various school events and also compete in national competitions with the culmination of their season taking place at a Florida national competition in February.
