HARRISON, N.Y. - There are more than 900,000 people in Westchester County. Harrison dentist Dr. Sabrina Magid is one of the top 22 to watch in 2012, according to a feature run last month in Westchester Magazine.
"I am very honored to be singled out by Westchester Magazine to receive this award," Magid said. "I believe I received this award for all the dentists that are improving the lives of patients every day."
Magid, 29, is a founding member of the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health and works with the Advanced Dentistry of Westchester on 163 Halstead Ave. in downtown Harrison. What sets her apart, the magazine mentioned, is her commitment to screening patients for oral cancer on a regular basis.
"Dentists are in a unique position to screen for and treat this widespread problem," Magid said.
Throughout her career, Magid has accumulated various awards including the Robert Seminara Resident of the Year Award from the New York Presbyterian-Methodist Hospital for excellence in general dentistry and service. She is also a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the American Dental Association.
"As a practice, Advanced Dentistry of Westchester has incorporated the latest advances in patient care to provide healthy, beautiful smiles, while contributing to our patients' overall health," Magid said. "Our efforts in the screening and treatment for obstructive sleep apnea and other health problems have greatly enhanced the quality of life for many people."
Magid attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where she treated patients in remote villages of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. While at school, she committed to addressing the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing patients. She has since acted as a mentor to other dentists, young and old, in sharing the need for sensitivity in their approach to treating deaf patients.
