Harrison DPW Donates $525 to Acocella Fund

HARRISON, N.Y. - A generous contribution to a memorial fund honoring the late Harrison Clerk Joseph Acocella, Jr. kicked off Thursday's town village board meeting, courtesy of the Harrison Department of Public Works (DPW).

Council member Joseph Cannella accepted a donation of $525 on behalf of the Harrison DPW in the company of the late clerk's father, Joseph Acocella, Sr. The money will be put into the Joseph Acocella, Jr. Fund, which makes contributions to organizations and charities that Acocella worked with or cared for, including Donate Life and some non-kill animal shelters.

"That's absolutely wonderful," Mayor/Supervisor Ron Belmont said as the money was presented to the town village board before the room broke into applause.

Acocella died last August of medical complications. He was awaiting a kidney transplant at the time of his death.

The foundation was created with help from Cannella to assist the causes dearest to Acocella's heart. Thus far over $30,000 has been raised since its inception, Cannella said.

There are no minimum contributions and all are tax-deductible.

Residents can mail contributions to:
