Harrison Educational Foundation to Host Fundraiser

HARRISON, N.Y. - The Harrison Education Foundation will host its annual fundraising event Oct. 17 at Harrison's Westchester Country Club and will honor school and local community leader Ellen Kaidanow.

"We are thrilled to honor Ellen Kaidanow," HEF Chair Laurie Fried said. "Her unwavering support of the school district and The Harrison Educational Foundation for more than 15 years has been inspirational."

In addition to her many community leadership positions, Kaidanow has been involved with the district for over 15 years and as a supporter of HEF since its inception. She has taken several leadership roles in the district, the most recent being Harrison High School PTA Co-President and Co-President of the PT Council.

The foundation generates and distributes private funds for curriculum enrichment programs to benefit the students of Harrison. Established in 1994, it seeks to achieve its goals by providing opportunities for creative teaching and learning experiences and by encouraging community and district partnerships.

In previous years, the HEF has provided grants both large and small. It has been instrumental in renovating the Harrison Performing Arts Center (HPAC) and constructing the Sirius Black Box Theater at the high school, school officials said.

The Foundation has also funded the renovation of original science labs to create state-of-the-art learning facilities. Smaller scale grants pair the district's third graders and visiting teachers from the Lincoln Center Institute, provide a SMART Response System for Math Instruction to be used with the district's existing SMARTBoard technology, and maintain existing programs such as Law Day and Writer's Among Us.
