Harrison Family Donates to Food Pantry at Meeting

HARRISON, N.Y. - Heather Schwartz said her girls always wanted to run their own lemonade stand and when they finally gave it a shot, they made an even greater impact on their community by assembling a hefty donation.

The Schwartz girls presented a check for $191 at Tuesday night's town board meeting and said the girls had collected canned items to be donated to the Harrison Food Pantry.

"I had heard that the food pantry was out of food and they weren't meeting the needs of the families in Harrison," Heather Schwartz said. "I thought, 'What could be more simple than raising something?'"

Jules, Jillian and Jadyn Schwartz formed a local lemonade stand while Heather Schwartz sent emails to nearly 30 friends asking them to come out to support the food pantry.

"We were able to donate bags upon bags," Heather Schwartz said. "Even after the donations, bags kept pouring in. We're very proud to have raised the money that we did."

Members of the board showed their gratitude for the donations and the group was applauded by local residents attending the meeting.

"We're very proud of you," Mayor Joan Walsh said to the girls. "It's a wonderful thing to have given. You have the giving heart."

The Harrison Food Pantry received several other donations from members of the Harrison community. Members of the Japanese Community in Harrison and several local families contributed a combined total of $6,500.
