Kids will get a chance to meet live animals at the kick-off parties, including frogs, chickens and hedgehogs.

During the summer kids are encouraged to read as much as they can. The libraries will keep reading logs for children, and reward them with gold stars for every 15 minutes of reading.

Kids can earn prizes for earning more stars, and those who gain more than 50 stars will be entered into a special raffle. They can also earn stars for writing reviews of books they read on the library’s website.

The kick-off parties will be held at 10 a.m. at the Main Library and at 3:45 p.m. at the West Harrison Library. There will be more events throughout the summer to get kids excited about reading.
