“I would like to sell the winning ticket,” said Sam Lorenzo, who works at the Harrison Food Mart on Halstead Avenue. “I hope we’ll have the winning one. I would be more than happy to see that.”

People filled the store Saturday, with one person even buying $250 worth of tickets – 125 of them – Lorenzo said.

Even though Lorenzo would be happy to sell the winner, he would not mind claiming the prize himself. The 23-year-old cannot buy the ticket at the store, but he has bought $20 worth elsewhere.

Lorenzo plans to buy a Lamborghini if he wins, but he would also like to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

“I’ll take care of all the people who need help who lost houses,” he said. “We’ve got to pick up everyone. It’s the right time to get the money.”

The Powerball drawing takes place at 10:59 p.m. Wednesday. A single winner would net $278.3 million after taxes, according to the Powerball website.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 175,223,510, the Powerball website says. To put that in perspective, the odds of being struck by lightning in a given year are estimated at 1 in 775,000, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
