Harrison Marching Band Rumbles Through Stamford

HARRISON, N.Y. - Co-Director of the Harrison High School Marching Band Charlie Briem said Harrison's students held their own Sunday while marching in Stamford's UBS Balloon Parade.

"The band worked hard – holding their form and controlling their performance and intensity for forty straight minutes," Briem said. "In a parade, there are no breaks or rest stops and the audience is new every twelve seconds as you move along the route."

The Harrison Husky Marching Band performed in the Stamford parade in front of close to 200,000 residents as part of a Thanksgiving holiday tradition.

The parade was kept in line by the drum line cadence set by the Husky marching band. Harrison hadn't played at this large of a venue for many years and according to co-band director Fred Pasqua, "It was a terrific way to complete the marching and stadium units for the band."

The Grand Marshals of the parade this year were Emmy and Golden Globe winner and Academy Award and Tony award nominee Laura Linney, Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey and Academy Award nominee Gabourey Sidibe of "The Big C" on Showtime and new balloons such as The Very Hungry Catepillar and Hagar The Horrible were showcased.

A giant Oscar The Grouch balloon throughout their march chased the Harrison troop. The Husky band will transition from marching to concert mode as they prepare for the Winter Concert to be held at the Harrison Performing Arts Center on Monday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
