This follows the issuance of the decision of the commissioner of the DEC on June 16, which directed the issuance of this permit. The commissioner ruled that no hearing was necessary, as the proposed project was previously redesigned to eliminate all regulated activities in the wetland.
This ruling puts an end to years of litigation and dispels every issue raised, including flooding. This project was always designed in accordance with DEC specifications, and the DEC has always given its approvals of this project each and every step of the way. The town can now move forward with developing this site as a multifaceted recreational facility.
I look forward to the expansion of recreational use on this site, which will include a small field, an open grass area and walking trails.
I would like to take this time to recognize the Harrison Fire Department. Recently, the department participated in this year’s village of Mamaroneck Fireman’s Parade. Many state and local fire departments take part in this annual event and take great pride in the appearance of their vehicles and uniforms as well as their district’s parade formation.
I am very happy to report that Harrison won three awards. Congratulations to the Harrison Fire Department for its second-place recognition in Most Firefighters in the Line of March, the Best Appearing Non-regulation Uniform and to Roy Alletti for the Best Appearing Antique Fire Truck.
Please take note of the following updates from our Department of Public Works: road restoration will soon begin on Barnes Lane, Underhill Avenue and West Street. Currently, this resurfacing project has been put out to bid and is scheduled to commence sometime in late August.
Our Highway Department has completed the pavement preservation project in the Winfield Glen area as well as several locations in West Harrison.
The Sanitation Department is in the process of rolling out Phase 3 of the automated sanitation program.
