Harrison Political Headquarters Hard at Work

HARRISON, N.Y. - Harrison Councilman Pat Vetere sat calmly inside the Town's Democratic headquarters on Halstead Avenue Tuesday afternoon, waiting for the evening's vote tallies to determine who will shape the local government.

"I'm not nervous," said Vetere, who is up for re-election. "I've been through this before."

Mayor and Supervisor Joan Walsh was also hard at work inside the Democratic headquarters, making phone calls and checking paperwork to assure residents are getting out to vote. The Walsh Team's Row-A ticket includes town council candidates Howard Hollander and Pat Vetere and town clerk candidate Frank Corvino (D), who will face off against Belmont Team council candidates Stephen Malfitano, Fred Sciliano and clerk candidate Jackie Greer (R)

Belmont's team was also buzzing in its nearby political headquarters on Harrison Avenue. Harrison Chamber of Commerce President Ada Angarano was working the phones and preparing to help remind, and sometimes transport, residents to vote.

"I feel very good about today," Angarano said. "These are all lifelong Harrison residents working with us here and we're going to get everyone out to vote."

The results will begin pouring in when the Harrison polls close at 9 p.m. Both political teams will be in town to receive the results, with the Democrats gathering at its Halstead Avenue headquarters and the Republicans at the John Cabot Club.
