HARRISON, N.Y. – The Harrison Public Library has many events planned for August, including everything from playing board games and watching movies to reading books and learning more about computers.
Wednesday, Aug 8: The Young Adult Summer Reading Club from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Boys and girls from 13 to 17 years old can discuss books, review books online, plus eat pizza and ice cream during this two day event.
Thursday, Aug. 9 and Tuesday, Aug. 28: Computer Orientation at 10:30 a.m. Patrons can learn to search the Internet and computerized library catalog. The library states that “if you are feeling left behind in this technology-oriented world, this class is for you.”
Wednesday, Aug. 29: Brown Bag Cinema from 12:30 to 2:15 p.m. The library will show the 2010 film, Leap Year, which is a romantic comedy.
Wednesday, Aug. 29: Movies at the Library from 6 to 8:45 p.m. The library will show the 2012 film, The Hunger Games.
Wednesdays, Aug. 8, 22, and 29: Circle Time for Tots from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 to 11:30 a.m. This event is for one to three year olds and siblings are welcome. They will sing and read songs and stories.
Mondays, Aug. 6, 13, 20, and 27: Storyland from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Three to five year olds are welcome along with their siblings to listen to children’s stories.
Mondays, Aug. 6, 13, 20, 27: Board Games from 4 to 5 p.m. All ages are allowed to join in the fun. You can play the library’s board games or bring your own.
Thursday, Aug. 9: Summer Reading Game Closing Party from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
All of those who have participated in the program can join for a celebration filled with raffle giveaways, certificates, refreshments, and music.
Wednesday, Aug. 15: Movies at the Library from 4 to 5:30 p.m. An entertaining and popular children’s movie will be shown.
Thursday, Aug. 23: Dawny Dew Halasz from 10:30 to 10:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. Kids ages six and under can “wiggle and giggle with Dawny Dew” plus his music and puppets.
Monday, Aug. 6 through Friday, Sept. 7: “Natural Fractions” by Lorie Gurian
The paintings will be on display through this time period and Gurian will be at the library Aug. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Harrison Council for the Arts.
