Construction started on Oct. 27 and the library is expected to reopen in June.

H3 Hardy Architects from New York is the project architect and Piazza Inc. of Hawthorne is the general contractor. Artists renderings of the renovation project can be viewed online here:

The project's first phase was demolition of the interior and (removal of hazardous materials), which is finished, Belmont said.

The project is in its second phase, which includes rough carpentry, framing of walls and soffits (underside of cornices, eaves and arches), plumbing and electrical, heating and ventilation systems.

"While there have been a few surprises, exposing existing conditions that have to be corrected, the work is progressing on schedule for substantial completion by late June 2015,'' Belmont said.

The Harrison Town/Village Board pledged $1.1 million for the project. Private donations for another $1.1 million were raised by the Richard E. Halperin Memorial Fund. The Harrison Public Library Foundation also is raising money for the project.

The renovation project includes construction of a new technology center, children's room, teen center and television studio.

The West Harrison Public Library at 2 Madison St. in Silver Lake is open extended hours during renovations at the main branch. That library is open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays , 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It also will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
