Harrison Puppy Gallery Plays it Safe

HARRISON, N.Y. - Last month, The Daily Harrison ran a story on Youtube videos involving Harrison, including one of the downtown Puppy Gallery. One reader asked in the story if the store did business with puppy mills and reporter Phil Corso stopped by to find out.

Staff members of the Puppy Gallery said they strictly refused business from any puppy mills, or profit-based breeding facilities.

Puppies come in from breeders throughout New York and others throughout the country and workers of the shop said each breeder's record is meticulously analyzed to assure there are no violations. Any breeders with a single violation are not dealt with.

Dogs are checked for health and vaccine updates before and upon arrival to the Puppy Gallery.

The Puppy Gallery opened its doors four months ago on Halstead Avenue in downtown Harrison and has become a popular spot for passersby. Puppies inside the store are never there for too long, workers said, as the store's newfound popularity has them giving dogs new homes each day.

The store sold a goldendoodle for $5 in July because it hadn't found a home after four months. The staff said that though they are in the business to make money, they care more about the dogs and will do whatever they have to so they find a home.
