HARRISON, N.Y. - Harrison spent Monday opening roads, draining floods, and trying to bring a sense of normalcy back after Tropical Storm Irene barreled through the region.
"All is well here," Harrison Emergency Medical Services Chief Joe Billoto said. "We had four ambulances on and only responded to six jobs during the storm and 10 after."
The storm canceled flights throughout the Northeast and also closed major highways and roads on the ground. Over 1,000 residents were left without power and several Harrison roads were covered in debris, mostly from trees.
Consolidated Edison reported 1,296 outages in Harrison as of 4 p.m. Monday.
"Other than a ton of flooding and trees and power outages, I think all went well," Billoto said. "The Harrison Police Department, Department of Public Works, and Fire Department did an outstanding job."
Harrison Avenue was blocked off until it was reopened around 3 p.m. Monday and other problematic areas were also alleviated. The once-flooded intersection at Nelson Avenue and Union Avenue became clear as well Monday.
Nelson Avenue was blocked off closer to Calvert Street as a downed tree was still sitting in the middle of the road and covered by police tape and cones.
Local officials in Harrison reported no severe injuries.
