HARRISON, N.Y. -- The two-week search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and all the different conspiracy theories surrounding its disappearance have Harrison residents wondering what could have happened to the plane.
"I think it was most likely a terrorist act," said Michael Basso. He said he had heard some reports about plane parts being found in Antarctica, but with so many conflicting news reports it's tough to know what's true. "I'm a little confused. I don't know what to think."
He believes there is a possibility that the passengers are dead, but says that all the information might not have been released.
"You don't know. Things get screened, there's always some sort of vested interest that might not be sharing information with others."
Ana Kostovic agreed that it is tough to know the truth. "I honestly don't know. It could have been that the plane caught fire and tried to turn around, but without communication that might not have been possible," she said. Her husband is in the army and she said that there is a possibility that a terrorist organization could have taken the plane to use against America. "You can never count it out."
Kostovic believes that the media may be hyping the story without sufficient facts and details, but she said that the event has made her a bit more wary about flying. "Of course. I'm flying to Europe with my twins this summer, and this makes me very nervous."
Dave Mir said he still wants more information about what happened.
"It could be anything. It could be mechanical failure, signal failure, it could be pilot error, or it could be something more malevolent," he said. "I can't understand why, if it's a major terrorist thing, why they would attack that airline."
Mir said that, if government satellites can take pictures of people from space, why they're having such a hard time finding this plane.
"Their tracking systems definitely have to be improved," he said.
