Harrison Road Resealing Proceeds On Schedule

HARRISON, N.Y. – Several roadways throughout Harrison are being preserved and protected in a process that started Aug. 6. and is expected to last about two weeks.

“The project is proceeding nicely at this time,” said Public Works Commissioner Anthony Robinson. The contractor “will be completing the initial phase of crack sealing and rut filling today. The chip seal placement is scheduled to commence Wednesday, weather permitting.”

The roadways that are being worked on include Batavia Place, Crawford Road, Congress Street, Ellsworth Avenue, Webster Avenue, Woodlands Road and Post Place.

“It is not a typical asphalt overlay, but rather, a combination of several pavement treatments designed to preserve and protect existing asphalt roadways, thereby extending their service life,” said Robinson, referring to what is known as cape seal.

New York Bituminous Products Corp. is handling the work at a cost of $302,834.26, which is coming from the Department of Public Works capital budget.

Robinson said the work is part of Harrison’s routine road maintenance. He said there will be “intermittent traffic disruptions” and added that the program is “performed at a substantial cost savings to ordinary mill-and-pave-type projects.” He said this process will allow the town to treat more roadways “given the limited funding available.”
