Harrison Roadways Being Preserved Through Program

HARRISON, N.Y. – Roadways throughout Harrison will be preserved and protected after a Department of Public Works request was approved at the Village Board meeting Thursday night.

The roads include Batavia Place, Crawford Road, Congress Street, Ellsworth Avenue, Webster Avenue, Woodlands Road and Gainsborg Avenue. However, DPW Commissioner Anthony Robinson said, the list is subject to change.

“It is not a typical asphalt overlay, but rather, a combination of several pavement treatments designed to preserve and protect existing asphalt roadways, thereby extending their service life,” said Robinson, referring to what is known as cape seal.

New York Bituminous Products Corp. will handle the work at a cost of $302,834.26, which is coming from the DPW capital budget. The initial phase of repairs could begin Monday, Aug. 6.

Robinson said the work is part of Harrison’s routine road maintenance program and said there will be “intermittent traffic disruptions” while it is being conducted. He added that this program is “performed at a substantial cost savings to ordinary mill and pave-type projects,” and will allow the town to treat more roadways, “given the limited funding available.”
