Employee Sam Lorenzo said he was hopeful the station would get more gas Monday, but he was not sure.

Hurricane Sandy has made gas hard to find in the tri-state area, and long lines await those who find it, including Craig Frey from Bellerose, L.I.

"We're devastated down there ? South Shore, all the way around the Island ? cooked. Everybody got water in their basements," he said.

Frey, who works in Harrison, remembers that in 1978 there was gas rationing, which is occurring now in New Jersey.

"It's unfortunate," he said of the aftermath of the hurricane. "It's a shame, but this is when we shine, too. Something good comes out of this. Maybe people take a chill pill and realize what we mean to each other."
