HARRISON, N.Y. - Students from the Harrison Central School District were recognized earlier this month for their academic achievements in Italian studies in conjunction with Italian Heritage and Culture Month.
Nicole Anne Barletta, Silvia Buonocore, Sarah Navarra, Cayla Pettinato and Amanda Tamucci were nominated by their teachers for their dedication to the language and culture of Italy and were honored in a ceremony at Antonio Meucci Lodge on Oct. 4.
The Antonio Meucci Lodge is a member of The Order Sons of Italy in America, the nation's oldest and largest Italian American service and advocacy organizations.
Other Harrison High School students were also honored in events as a result of their Italian studies.
Senior Cayla Pettinato was recently selected as the recipient of The Columbus Day Society of Harrison scholarship. The Society determines the selection based on application, essay and grade and supplies a monetary award toward a student's college tuition.
Sophomore Alessia Solimeo will also be recognized at the Westchester County Board of Legislators Annual Italian Heritage and Culture Month Proclamation Ceremony this week. County Executive Rob Astorino will issue this proclamation at a meeting Oct. 17.
