Harrison Town Clerk Might Start Selling E-Z Passes

HARRISON, N.Y. -- Harrison could become one of the first towns in New York state where you can buy an E-Z Pass "On the Go" tag at a Town Clerk's Office.

E-Z Pass "On the Go" tags may soon be available at the Harrison Town Clerk's Office.

Harrison Town Clerk Jackie Greer has been working with the New York State Thruway Authority to become a sales point for the E-Z Pass tags. The Town Board will vote on the proposed agreement between Harrison and the state at its meeting Thursday night.

The "On the Go" tag allows travelers to open an E-Z Pass account without filling out an application or waiting in line. Tags would be available to anyone, not just Harrison residents. Drivers would be able to stop by the Town Clerk's Office and purchase a prepackaged account kit for $25. They can then mount the tag in their vehicle and begin using it immediately. They must then visit the E-Z Pass website or call 1-800-697-1544 to register the tag within 48 hours of its first use.

Once the tag is registered, the full $25 will be moved to your E-Z Pass account. The "On the Go" tag can be used like any other E-Z Pass tag, and can even be added to your existing account. E-Z Pass is accepted in 15 states.

The Town Clerk's Office will receive about 17 percent of the gross sales, creating additional revenue for the town. The town clerk will not be able to accept replenishment payments. If approved by the Town Board, sales of the tags should begin by mid-August. For more information, contact the Town Clerk's Office at 914-670-3030.
