Harrison Woman Opens the Toy Box at Tag Sale

HARRISON, N.Y. - Sue Drexler and her family said they were running out of room to put all their "stuff." Raising two children in Greenwich and growing up in Harrison made for years of memories and mounds of things that the Drexlers threw together and put up for sale on Saturday for a family tag sale.

"We just needed to purge," Drexler said. "We had too much stuff and needed to clean out. It's a great feeling to be giving these things to people who can use them."

Items as big as a Ford Mustang and as strange as a fake skeleton were displayed on the lawn of Sue's mother's Harrison home on Danner Avenue where she grew up. Signs were also placed around the town directing drivers to the collections that Sue had designed and placed on her own.

"This took a few weeks to arrange," she said. "We had to get rid of this stuff, so I went through everything in the house and tagged every item."

Sue's husband Steve Drexler said most of the items were things their two children had eventually grown out of. Stuffed animals and board games were scattered across the lawn and were popular browsing spots for the younger shoppers.

The most expensive item for sale was the family's 1994 Cobalt Series boat that they had left in Connecticut to save them the trouble of hauling it to the sale. A laminated sign sat on the sale desk promoting the boat priced at $15,999.

"We figured we'd see if anyone was interested but didn't expect too much," Steve Drexler said.

The family said they had no particular plans for the money they collected from the sale aside from paying the bills.

"It was more important to just find a place for these things," Sue Drexler said.

The sale opened at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning and ran until 4 p.m. and featured items such as an arcade slot machine, a frozen dessert maker, and assorted furniture items.
