HARRISON, N.Y. -- Schools in Harrison opened their doors for students on Tuesday morning and also opened their umbrellas for heavy rainfall. Despite early morning delays for many elementary students affected by the rain Wednesday morning, Harrison Schools Spokeswoman Monica Miles said things were still "swimmingly" smooth.
Principal Scott Frield sent students of Louis M. Klein Middle School on Nelson Avenue in downtown Harrison an alert early Wednesday morning detailing a drop-off change after flooding hit the roads around the school.
"Teachers and other administrators at LMK, as well as the local Harrison police, helped conduct the traffic flow and school began basically on schedule," Miles said.
She said that all operations otherwise have been running smoothly and the rain hasn't caused any further issues for the schools' opening days.
Looking forward, Miles said the upcoming weeks at Harrison schools are mostly PTA-driven. Each school will hold an initial meeting to discuss early plans for the year. They will also host welcome back breakfasts for faculty and staff.
