Mayor Ron Belmont was hopeful the storm would miss Harrison, but was not certain, stating, “That could change by the minute.”

“I’ve been in touch with our emergency services already and we’re all on board,” said Belmont. “We’re watching very closely. We’re in touch with all the bureaus to find out exactly where and when it’s going to hit.”

Tips and other important information from Con Edison:

In case of a power outage, you can notify ConEd online. To track the progress of ConEd, you can look at this outage map.

Do not touch or go near a downed electrical wire. Contact ConEd or the Harrison Police Department immediately.

“If a power line falls on your call while you’re in it,” ConEd says, stay in the car and call the police department.

In case of a power outage, “turn off all lights and appliances to prevent overloaded circuits when power is restored.”

Check to make sure you have reliable flashlights and extra batteries.

“Avoid opening your freezer to see if food is still frozen,” ConEd warns. “Most fully loaded freezers will keep food frozen for approximately 36 to 48 hours; half-full freezers will keep food frozen for approximately 24 hours.”
