MAMARONECK, N.Y. Your morning commute may be altered beginning Thursday due to reconstruction work on bridges where local roads cross Interstate 95 in Mamaroneck, Harrison and Rye, according to the New York State Thruway Authority.
The $3.2 million project, scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2013, was contracted out to Mount Vernon-based Defoe Corporation in December. It includes reconstruction work on four bridges, two of which begin Thursday, and the other two begin in June.
In Mamaroneck, two bridges will be worked on. Beginning Thursday, the authority announced there will be alternating lane closures on Fenimore Road between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Additionally, there will be shoulder and lane closures along I-95 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. weekdays.
Beginning in June, temporary detours will be posted on Rockland Avenue when the road is closed for repairs to the concrete decks on the overpass of I-95. The road will not be closed when school is in session.
Work on West Street in Harrison also will begin Thursday. There will be a temporary traffic signal installed to allow alternating, one-lane traffic throughout work on this bridge over I-95.
Work on Central Avenue in Rye will begin in June. Temporary detours will be posted when the local overpass to I-95 is closed for repairs.
