HARRISON, N.Y. - Revamping Harrison's downtown business district was a hot topic of debate throughout last November's election cycle, and Lisa Giuliano will become part of the mix in January.
The Harrison resident will celebrate a soft opening in early 2012 of her newest venture, a downtown Italian ice shop to be called " Lisa Marie's Ice Shop, Sweets 'n Treats ." The shop at 240 Halstead Ave. will replace a former Bubble Tea Shop and fill a void that Giuliano said Harrison has long-since looked for.
"There are no other Italian ice shops like this in Harrison," Giuliano said. "The town has been asking for one. Everyone who knows me knows I love to talk. So being able to serve the public is something I am very excited to do."
Giuliano moved to Harrison two years ago and said she often traveled out of town with her four children to find quality Italian ice locations. Instead of spending another minute driving elsewhere, she said she'd rather take matters into her own hands and offer a Harrison alternative to be open seven days a week.
A struggling downtown in Harrison became a heavy debate point throughout last November's political season. But Giuliano said her new shop will be part of the solution.
"We're not nervous at all," Giuliano said. "We're actually very confident. I have a very strong feeling that we have something to offer."
Harrison Chamber of Commerce President Ada Angarano said she noticed the store's newly-installed sign while walking through the downtown business district and she couldn't wait for the location to open.
The store will celebrate its official grand opening in March 2012 with 20 traditional and specialty flavors alongside gourmet and flavored coffee, espresso, gourmet cupcakes and other baked goods. Both cream and water ice varieties will be served alongside sugar-free options.
