“We had workers in the area and they noticed the sheep,” said Aaron Donovan, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). “They reported it to the dispatching office who shooed it away from the tracks. He went on his way without incident”

The sheep was seen wandering around the tracks around 11:10 a.m. and was off of them about 20 minutes later. The animal is believed to have escaped from a private property north of the Philipse Manor Station,” according to the New York Post.

“We had a few trains delayed in a minor way,” said Donovan. “But it’s the middle of the day, so there’s not a lot trains on those tracks. We always look out for safety of animals on tracks to the extent that we can.”

A passenger, who did not want to be identified, posted a picture of the sheep that was re-tweeted by the MTA at @mtaHarlemLine.

“Wondering why there were @MetroNorth Hudson Line delays? A sheep is the culprit…”

The New York Post reports that a collie mix puppy leapt in front of a train on the Hudson Line from Mott Haven Junction to the 125th Street station and was rescued by two MTA officers and a Metro-North worker in April.

The Daily Voice reported back in May that an even bigger animal halted transportation when a horse from the John Jay Homestead got loose and ran down Interstate 684.
