The state’s Congressional delegation sent a joint statement protesting the closure: “For years, our delegation has been calling for action on real reforms to get the Postal Service back on a sound fiscal footing, and now a failure to act by the House Republican leadership means jobs lost and livelihoods threatened.”
According to the statement, 1,200 jobs will be affected. The delegation promised to work to reverse the closure decision and to make sure Connecticut residents do not experience delays in mail delivery. Congress must also pass a plan to help the postal service adapt to challenges, the statement said.
“USPS is correct in one respect: it cannot sustain itself under the current system. But unilateral action is not the answer,” the statement said.
