LifeTime Fitness on Verge of Agreement in Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. – The Harrison Town Board is expected to approve an agreement with LifeTime Fitness to begin the process of bringing a family recreation center to town in the area near Interstate 287 known as the “Platinum Mile.”

Attorney for LifeTime Fitness, Frank McCullough, said a new building will be constructed in the first half of 2013 at 1 Gannett Drive. The building currently is being used by the Journal News, whose agreement ends in September, when it will complete its move to White Plains. The building will be demolished in late October or early November.

McCullough said the new building will be 207,000 square feet and have parking for approximately 670 cars. LifeTime Fitness already has been given an amendment to the current zoning (business offices) to allow the facility to be built.

“We’ve also obtained authorization from the Westchester County Industrial Development Agency to negotiate a PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) agreement with the Town of Harrison for the property,” McCullough said.

McCullough said there were no concerns about noise given the complex where the fitness center will be built is not near any homes. McCullough added that remediation work, including some soil removal drainage will happen between demolition and construction. The project is expected to take 18 months to complete and should open by the end of 2014.

“This is more than just a gym; it’s a family recreation facility which is quite extensive,” McCullough said. “I think it’s going to have a regional impact. It will not only draw people from Harrison but from other area of Westchester as well. It will generate new taxes and we anticipate that it will generate revenue for the entire area.”
