Harrison's Lowey Marks 75th Social Security Anniversary

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, D-Harrison, the ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee, joined a group of local senior citizens at The Esplanade Senior Residences on Saturday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Social Security.

The first Social Security check was issued on Jan. 31, 1940. Lowey talked about the importance of Social Security benefits for seniors after a lifetime of hard work, and local seniors shared personal stories about how Social Security has positively affected their lives. The group then enjoyed a celebratory cake.
