Mamaroneck Write-In Ballots Waiting to be Counted

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Wilma Reidy wrote-in Suzanna Keith's name on her ballot for County Legislator District 7, which the Board of Elections had yet to tally for the Independence Party primary Tuesday.

They did tally 65 votes for incumbent county legislator Judy Myers (D-Larchmont) with 75 percent of districts reporting, according to their unofficial results as of midnight.

"I want her," said Reidy, a Town of Mamaroneck resident who proudly cast her ballot at the Weaver Street Firehouse. "I know about her and I prefer her to Judy Myers. I like what she believes in."

Keith, who will run on the Republican line for County Legislator for District 7, is hopeful that her write-in campaign for the Independence Party ticket will give her another line on the ballot in November.

"For me, it's a win win, regardless of what happens, because it's a great way to get my name out there and let people know that I really want to hear what they have to say," Keith said.

Conversely, Myers will run on the Democratic line and, regardless of Tuesday's primary outcome, has the support of Jim and Nina Grosvenor.

"She's a reality-based legislator," said Robert Cammer, a Town resident who supports Myers all the way. "That's what she brings."

Myers did not return three calls for comment Tuesday.

District 7 includes Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, Part of Harrison and Part of New Rochelle, which total 54 neighborhoods. Only 41 of those neighborhoods reported their ballots to the Board of Elections as of midnight Tuesday.
