HARRISON, N.Y. - A Manhattan man was arrested Thursday after county police collected 100 bags of heroin following a traffic stop on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Harrison.
Rashaun King, 33, of Third Avenue in Manhattan, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree with intent to sell, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was held in lieu of bail at Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.
The stop was made when Detective Joseph Berardi of the county's General Investigations Unit saw a traffic violation near the Interstate 287 interchange. Berardi said he smelled marijuana inside the car upon approaching the driver.
After questioning, police said the passenger admitted he had smoked marijuana and was found to have a small amount on him alongside 100 bags of heroin packed in bundles of 10.
The narcotics seizure was the second this week on the parkway by county police. On Tuesday, Officer Steven Stromberg arrested a Danbury, Conn. man after finding him in possession of 453 Oxycodone tablets and 43 Opana (oxymorphone) tablets, valued at $15,000. Jeffrey Becker, 23, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree in that incident.
