Courtney Turner and Jennifer McSharar each had double digit points and rebounds but their effort were not enough to turn back the New York University Violets in a 71-57 loss in New York City Wednesday.
New York University went on a seven-point run and opened up a 29-20 lead with 2:05 remaining in the first half and ended the half up 31-22. After the break the Violets hit a quick jumper and opened up an 11-point lead and led by 15 with 17:15 remaining.
Turner had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Valiants and McSharar added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the first double-double her career.
Manhattanville (3-5, 0-2 Freedom) will be back in action as part of the 2011 Cruzin' Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on December 17, taking on Messiah at noon. NYU (5-2, 3-0 UAA) will be back in action on December 30 at Brooklyn College.
