Many Ossining Gas Stations Running Dry After Sandy

OSSINING, N.Y. – Dozens of frustrated drivers left gas stations in Ossining as quickly as they arrived Wednesday as several stations ran out of gas thanks to Hurricane Sandy.

Lines of cars stretched into the street from gas stations as drivers waited for a chance to fuel up their cars at the few stations that still had gas after the hurricane.

Sedat Uysal has owned the Getty gas station on Pleasantville Road in Ossining for eight years. He was out of town during the hurricane but flew back into Westchester on Wednesday night to discover that gas stations along the highway are all out of fuel.

His station suffered the same fate on Thursday, and the best response he could get from his fuel supplier is that it is “working on it.”

Uysal had to turn away several drivers and he noted that the residents are starting to grow frustrated.

“They don’t understand why (we don’t have gas) and we have to explain it to them,” Uysal said. “It’s bad for business.”

Uysal’s car is also out of gas and he said he would have to search nearby stations for fuel. He expects gas prices to soar as the few remaining stations increase their prices.
