Before folks chomp down on the turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie, the MTA is offering “extra getaway trains” departing Wednesday from Grand Central. Those who work in the city can “take flight” starting at 1 p.m., said a press release from the MTA. The company will combine or eliminate some night trains because of “decreased ridership.”

On Thursday, extra morning inbound trains will be available for those going to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and “many post-parade outbound trains waiting to get you to your holiday festivities,” the release said.

The MTA added that many evening service trains will be running as well.

Black Friday will operate on a Saturday schedule, “with extra service” in the morning and at night, plus inbound trains “between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to accommodate your needs.”

The Shoppers’ Specials service schedule will take effect Saturday and Sunday and last till the end of December — meaning extra train service on the New Haven, Harlem and Hudson lines.

All fares are off-peak during the four-day holiday period, and the MTA urges customers to buy their tickets early. It is suggested that you buy “a ten-trip, off-peak ticket if you're traveling with family and friends,” because you will save 30-40 percent “off the one-way, off-peak fare, and the ticket can be used by more than one person, even when traveling together,” the release said.

You must have your train ticket before boarding at Grand Central Terminal or the Harlem-125th Street Station on Thanksgiving Day.
