HARRISON, N.Y. – A large majority of Harrison remains in the dark Wednesday, days after Hurricane Sandy struck, with 6,317 Con Edison customers without power, the Con Edison power outage map said at 5:47 p.m.

The number of customers without power early Wednesday morning  jumped from 6,234 – of the 9,470 Harrison customers – to 6,317. Harrison Avenue area residents are receiving the brunt of the outages, as 2,951 customers are powerless.

Con Edison said that it could take "a few days" to repair all of the damage and restore power, according to a news release.

Many in Westchester remain without power as well with 170,325 out of 348,198 customers in the dark.

Authorities are asking customers to report outages and downed wires to Con Edison, rather than through local emergency service lines. Customers can call 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).

When reporting an outage, customers are asked to have their Con Edison account numbers available and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.

Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available, according to a press release.

“This is the largest storm-related outage in our history,” said Con Edison Senior Vice President for Electric Operations John Miksad in a press release.

The company noted that the previous record was “more than 203,000 customers affected by Hurricane Irene in 2011,” according to the release.
