Myers Re-Elected District 7 County Legislator

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Judy Myers was narrowly re-elected to another term as the County Legislator for District 7 Tuesday, according to unofficial Board of Election results.

Myers defeated Republican challenger Suzanna Keith.

"It was a hard-fought campaign," said Myers from the Democratic headquarters at Roasted Peppers in Mamaroneck Tuesday night. "Not always enjoyable, but I continue to believe it's a real honor to represent the people in this district."

Keith, a City of Rye council member, did not return a phone call.

With 83 percent of the votes in Tuesday night, Myers had 54 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results.

The crux of the debate rested on taxes versus spending. Myers focused on challenging County Executive Robert Astorino's policies, voting 247 times to overturn his vetoes.

"The best thing we can do in the next two years is to continue to override all of the many vetoes that come down from the county executive so that we can continue to move Westchester forward," said Myers (D,WF,IN), who characterized her opponent's support of Astorino's policies as "reckless."

Throughout her campaign, Keith characterized those votes as votes against the taxpayer.

"The most important thing is to make our county affordable for the long term," Keith said.

Ronald Sher said he voted for Myers because he feels she is the best person for the job.

"I think she is concerned with the same issues that I am," he said.
