BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- There is hope for development at Buchanan-based Indian Point once the plant closes in 2020 and 2021.

The New York State Indian Point Closure Task Force held its second meeting on Sept. 28. At the meeting, John Sipos, a state representative, said segments of the property could be released early for development while the plant is being decommissioned, according to The Examiner .

Sipos said Indian Point having a small footprint was helpful for future development, according to The Examiner .

Indian Point is set to close in 2020 and 2021 after Entergy, which owns Indian Point said it was closing down the plant because it was no longer economically viable to remain open.

Recently, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino filed two lawsuits against the closure of the plant, claiming the closure violated the state's Environmental Quality Review Act. Astorino is hoping to invalidate the agreement to close the plant until a review is conducted. The suit will be heard in White Plains.

Another meeting of the New York State Indian Point Closure Task Force is set for Dec. 19, while representatives from the NRC and Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) will be at a Community Unity Task Force meeting on Oct. 19
