Professor to Discuss Financial Crisis in Harrison

HARRISON, N.Y. - Professor Kent Smetters of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania will speak at Harrison's Manhattanville College this month, detailing the current financial crisis.

The "Outlook for the Economy and Navigating its Risks" presentation will be in Manhattanville's West Room of Reid Hall on Monday, Oct. 17 at 5:30 p.m. Smetters will discuss long- and short-term challenges facing America including debt outlook, inflation and continued risks in financial markets.

Smetters will present his argument that risks are real and should be considered when thinking about risk management.

The lecture is presented by Manhattanville's Department of Economics, Finance and Management.

Smetters is the Boettner Chair Professor at The Wharton School and a former Deputy Assistant Secretary for economic policy at the United States Treasury. He has been widely cited in the media, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, The Washington Post and National Public Radio.

He has published academic articles in leading journals and lectures frequently on risk management and the fiscal challenges facing the U.S. Smetters is also the President of Veritat Advisors (www.veritat.com), an online financial planning firm.
