ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. The Purchase College mens and womens cross country team enjoyed individual and team success Sunday with several runners achieving personal bests and both teams placing in the top five in the Bard College Cross Country Invitational.
Both the men and the women placed in the top five, and individually, just about the whole team broke personal records, said first-year Purchase head coach Christian Fuller, who lives in Tuckahoe.
St. Joseph's led the womens team competition with 47 points with Purchase placing fifth with 150 in the field of 14 colleges. Laurel Squadron led the Purchase women placing 13th overall in a personal best time of 20:31. Jessica Hohohn (21:28), Colleen Walker (21:31) and Mariel Perez (22:22) followed Squadron.
In the mens event, Cobleskill took top honors with 34 points, edging St, Joseph (35) with Purchase running fifth with 189. Jake Agosto was ninth overall for Purchase in a time of 28:14, followed by Julian Norton (29:14), Samir Mekrami (30:39) and Esteban Silva (31:39).
"I think what these kids learned when you run cross country is to not worry about their time, assistant coach Liam McGuirk said. The time will come by itself. It's about competing."
