Purchase Library Ready For Saturday Party

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Local libraries are giving kids incentives to read this summer, such as parties and prizes, according to Roberta Ursaner, co-president of the Friends of Purchase Free Library.

“Once a month, on designated Saturdays over the span of this summer, we have been having Summer Reading Program parties at PFL to celebrate the accomplishments of our young readers,” Ursaner said.

The parties include arts and crafts plus a raffle for the kids who participate in the summer reading program at the library. During Saturday’s pirate-themed party, kids will make bandana’s while watching "Pirates of the Caribbean."

The party starts at 11 a.m. and ends at noon. The library is at 3093 Purchase St.

HARRISON, N.Y. – The Harrison Library needs the support of local residents to raise money “to augment the library’s limited budget,” said a flier from the Friends of the Harrison Public Library.

“Many fine programs are in the works for children and adults at the Harrison Public Library,” said the group. “Upcoming events include author visits, musical programs, movies at the library, and several exciting children’s programs.”

The volunteer group is offering tote bags that state “I am a Friend of the Harrison Library” for a $5 donation.

“It’s great for carrying all of your library books,” said the group. “All of the proceeds go to help our libraries.”
